The South Climate Conclave: Sri Lanka Chapter

The current climatic trend of rising temperature all across the South Asian region has compelled individuals to engage in dialogues that will drive concrete policymaking initiatives in its wake. Due to its’ urgency to act, the Climate Action Champion Network (CACN) was implemented with the mission of empowering mere individuals to take substantial climate actions in the South Asian Region. It is believed that this platform will bridge the gap between knowledge and policy-making and facilitate dialogues between grassroots-level activists and policy-makers, with the primary objective of conducting discussions related to the pressing issue of climate change in South Asia.  Similalrly, it was designed to encourage collective action of the South Asian Climate Champions from the South Asian Countries of Nepal, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, with the hope to assemble experts and learners from multidisciplinary fields whose knowledge and experiences will help the ideas materialize into action.

This Conclave being the third conclave of the South Asian region, the Sri Lankan chapter of the South Climate Conclave focused on the most critical metric of climate change people currently face; which is the rising temperature, and hence, the overarching theme of the conclave for the Sri Lankan Chapter was chosen as the ‘World of Change: The Impact of Rising Global Temperature’. Its’ thematic area is expanded with a subtheme delving deeply into the impact of rising global temperature on agriculture and water, in the context of South Asia. Similalrly, it brought together development professionals, climate activists, and youth leaders to explore sustainable solutions to the multifaceted crisis of rising global temperature and climate change.
