Professor Fareena Ruzaik

Prof. Fareena Ruzaik entered the University of Peradeniya, read for a Special Degree in Geography, and joined the Dept. of Geography, University of Colombo (UoC). Currently, she is a Senior Lecturer in Geography and the Director of Postgraduate Studies, Faculty of Arts (FoA), UoC. Her experience in the Central Environmental Authority, during the period 1999 to 2005, has added more value to her academic activities in the University and community outreached programmes.
She has more than 20 years of experience in environmental-related activities including teaching related subjects. In addition, she has organized and coordinated multiple programs and events (seminars, conferences, post-graduate diplomas, etc.) for undergraduates and post-graduate students.
Prof. F. Ruzaik is founder member of the Asian Geographic Association (AGA) since 2018. She served as the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Association of Geographers (SLAG) from 2005 to 2019 and Secretary of the Ethics Review Committee for Social Sciences and Humanities (ERCSSH) from 2019-2021, FoA, UoC. She has conducted various researches in the field of environmental health management & medical geography, and she has presented her research papers on both national and international forums. Further, she has also published many research articles and books in the relevant field.
She has been serving as a resource person, contributing to various TV and Radio (Tamil & Sinhala) programmes; and newspaper articles to educate the public on issues related to environmental health and management in Sri Lanka.
