Vacancy for the post of Project Field Coordinator

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Project Field Coordinator at Sri Lanka Development Journalist Forum (SDJF).

1. What is SDJF?

SDJF is a well-established national level, non-governmental organization, with more than 10 years of extensive experience in promoting the role of media in democratization and transformation. Community media for inclusive development, training and capacity building are the major program areas of the SDJF. Democracy, equality, social justice and inclusiveness are its crosscutting themes. It works closely with International media development agencies, Local media organizations, Universities, Civil Society organizations, Youth and Women development movements engaged in promoting pluralism and vibrant democracy.

2. Purpose of the Position of Project Field Coordinator:

SDJF is looking for a dynamic, experienced and skillful individual for the position of Project Manager for the project of “Incubator Space for Information Rights and Freedom of Expression” (InSPIRE) implemented in partnership with HELVETAS and funded by EU. The overall objective of this project is to contribute to the enhancement of democracy and human rights in Sri Lanka. The SDJF component of InSPIRE project is focusing on 3 key results: i) Build a network of 300 innovative socially responsible future journalists (ii) Establish incubator spaces in the media departments of selected state universities, enabling the production of gender sensitive and socially responsible media expressions and (iii) Support advocacy initiatives and regional research in the area of freedom of expression, gender and right to information.

3. Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Field Coordinator is responsible for the following:

Program Coordination: The field Coordinator is primarily responsible for the entire coordination work under the InSPIRE project and support Program Director to maintain a comprehensive work plan up-to-date, maintaining the project files and documentation, and deliver the outputs and meet anticipated results. The specific duties are:

  1. Coordinate with Expert Review Committee (ERC): Keep constant communication and update to the ERC and organize regular meetings, getting their inputs and support for the program implementation.
  2. Coordinate and supervise the Liaison officers: The field coordinator is responsible for the effective coordination and supervision the functions of the liaison officers in the field. She/he is responsible for the maintaining the proper time sheets, progress reports, recommendation to the payment of liaison officers.
  3. Coordinate with CORE group members: The field coordinator is responsible for maintaining the cordial relationship with CORE group members, keep them update on the project activities and coordinate with them to organize the project activities at the university level.
  4. Coordination with trainers, mentors, experts: She/he also responsible for identify potential trainers, mentors and experts for the module training, idea markets, media productions in consultation with Program Director and donor and coordinate with them and organize such a trainings and events at the university level.
  5. Coordination with Beneficiaries: The field coordinator is expected to maintain a updated database of all the beneficiaries, keep them update about the events and trainings, coordinate and mobilize with them to participate in the project activities
  6. Administrative Support: Field Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining the database of beneficiaries, partners, trainers, resource persons, mentors and experts and keep them update on a regular basis.
  7. Content and Editorial support: Field Coordinator will draft project monthly reports, event reports, training reports in consultation with Program Director and SDJF Board members.
  8. Reporting and M&E: Field Coordinator will work closely with Program Director and use appropriate M&E tools, to develop high quality project reports and M&E learning reports as per the donor requirement. This will include monthly, quarterly, final and any other reports. e. Any other task or duty assigned by the Program Director or Senior management

4. Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Communication, Mass Media, Journalism, Law, Management or other related field.
  2. Five years’ experience in a similar role managing projects.
  3. Excellent language skills in English and, Sinhala or Tamil.
  4. Computer skills in MS Office package and statistical software.
  5. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, including the ability to prioritize
  7. Sound knowledge and experience in using social media to engage online audiences
  8. Ability to plan strategically and creatively to meet specified objectives with strong ability to anticipate challenges and generate solutions
  9. Professionalism in written correspondence and report writing, excellent presentation and oral communication skills
  10. Strong work ethics, ability to work in a multicultural environment and travel outside Colombo.
