The InSPIRE Project: The InSPIRE Project is a joint venture by the Sri Lanka Development Journalist Forum (SDJF) and HELVETAS with the overall objective of contributing to the enhancement of democracy and human rights in Sri Lanka.

The project is funded by the European Union and seeks to empower a community of aspiring future media  professionals and journalists through the development and implementation of specialised modules to improve the skills and knowledge of  students in four state universities such as, the University of Peradeniya, the University of Jaffna, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the South-Eastern University. The outcome of the project will enable the production of creative media products, thereby  encouraging gender sensitive and socially responsible use of new media such as social media and mobile  journalism.

About SDJF: The Sri Lanka Development Journalists Forum is a well-established national level non-profit and non-governmental organization having extensive experience in promoting the role of media in democratization and transformation since its inception in 2009. SDJF works closely with international media development agencies, local media organisations, universities, civil society organisations in addition to youth and women development movements engaged in promoting democracy and human rights in Sri Lanka.

Training: As part of the InSPIRE Project, media students will learn the many aspects of crisis reporting and investigative journalism to improve their journalistic skills.

SDJF is looking for highly skilled trainers to deliver training to the beneficiaries via workshops.

 

Deliverables

  • Preparation of a training module pertaining to crisis reporting and investigative reporting in journalism - 3 days
  • Conduct training/workshop in Jaffna, Peradeniya, and Colombo for university students and regional journalists- 6 days
  • A comprehensive session plan for the workshop, inclusive of  interactive training methodologies.
  • Pre and post-test assessment tools to assess the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the students before and after the training program.

 

Qualifications

Individuals/organizations with extensive experience and skills to enhance the capacity of students and empower a network of future journalists and media professionals, studying the selected universities. Specifically, the consultant should possess:

  • MA in Journalism/Mass communications or any equivalent qualification
  • At least five years experience in crisis/investigative reporting
  • Proven national and/or international experience as a lead trainer in crisis/investigative reporting
  • Ability to conduct sessions in Tamil and Sinhala.
  • Willingness to travel to workshop locations
  • Proven ability to plan strategically and innovatively to meet objectives.

 

How to apply:

Interested individuals/organizations are requested to submit:

1. A short proposal including the proposed training methodology, delivery methods,  detailed and defined activities. The proposal must include the consultancy fee quoted in LKR in the form of a daily rate covering professional fee and all related costs to execute the assignment.

2. Copy of CV/profile including the names of at least two contacts for references.

3. A cover letter that describes why the individual/organization is the most suitable to undertake this assignment. (Should include a list of projects/similar assignments carried out within the last 03 years.)

4. Copy of the registration of the organization if applicable.

5. The focal point for coordination from the consultant’s institution/organization if applicable.
